How Old Do You Have To Be To Buy CBD Hemp Flower?
Age restrictions and requirements often add a lot of power and prestige to certain birthdays. Notably, 18 and 21. Do either of these come into play, however, when looking at purchasing CBD hemp flower? It’s legal, after all, right? So, why would you need to be a certain age in order to buy it from a licensed retailer? Here’s what you should know.

Is there an age restriction on CBD hemp flower purchases?

In short, yes. While growing and working with hemp, and CBD products derived from that, is legal in the US, actually purchasing it is a little tricker. Hemp-derived CBD is still CBD, after all, and even though it’s no longer a controlled substance due to the updates to the 2018 Farmer’s Bill, it isn't a free-for-all when it comes to those who are looking to purchase it.

When do the age requirements apply?

If CBD sales aren’t legal, then you won’t be able to buy it in your state. If you are looking to buy CBD hemp flower in a state that is legal, you will have to be at least 18. This is verified by presenting ID in a brick and mortar shop, as well as verifying/declaring your age in an online shop (which is binding, so don’t lie). This is more or less standard across states and with different products.
The other place where you’ll be asked to verify our age is going to be in recreational facilities, in those states where they allow recreational sales of CBD hemp flower alongside its cousin, cannabis. In these cases, most will be required to be 21, the same as when you are looking to purchase alcohol products. This will also need to be validated in a traditional store with an ID, or online with the same declaration that you are of legal age.
